The Invisible Dog is thrilled to present a series of workshop animated by Halsey Chait at Atelier Jolie
There is a quiet wonder in making the first mark on paper. One moment, blank space—then, with the movement of your hand, something exists that didn’t before. A line. A gesture. A beginning.
Before anyone told you what a drawing “should” be, there was just you, a pencil, and the pure joy of making a mark. This workshop is a return to that. No pressure. No plan. Just the tools, the paper, and the moment.
Using simple materials—paper, pencil, pen—you’re invited to draw not with perfection in mind, but with presence. This is less a lesson than a space: open, generous, grounded in curiosity. No experience necessary. No outcome required.
Through a series of gentle prompts and intuitive exercises, we’ll explore drawing as a way of listening and noticing. You might begin from the center or from the edge. You might follow the rhythm of your breath, trace the arc of a gesture, or build a pattern one mark at a time. Lines may swarm or scatter, accumulate like dust, expand like roots, or spiral like galaxies. Some will stretch outward. Others may fold inward. What you create might echo animal paths, cellular forms, or something entirely your own.
We’ll gather with paper and a few simple tools—steel brushes, pouncing wheels, compasses, pens, pencils. Bring your own if you'd like, or use what’s here. There will be a few sparks to begin, and then space to explore. Draw slowly or quickly. Build one world or start many. The space is open. The rules are few. The possibilities? Infinite.
Draw to meditate. Draw to transform. Draw because it reminds you you’re here.
Some drawings may feel complete. Others may become seeds for something more. Either way, you’ll leave with a visual record of where your attention has been.
Ink, paper, presence. That’s it. That’s the invitation.
Come as you are. Make a mark. Let it grow.
