The Invisible Dog (New York City) and Asahi-so (Tokyo) are thrilled to partner and present Cal Stalvig’s workshop, as part of NAFAS TOKYO.
This event is part of NAFAS, an international festival exploring the relationship between art and food with an exhibition of 70 artists and a series of performances, workshops and events. Discover the full program here
Artist - performer Cal Stalvig invite you to a candle-making workshops where participants encounter the magic of candlelight, apiculture, and botany while immersed in the perfume of beeswax.
An agile activity that can be done as drop-in workshop or around a table after the plates have been cleared and the connection is still present. Participants cut or tear pieces from colorful sheets of beeswax and use the warmth of their hands to sculpt taper candles around a wick.
Vibe: Playful, all-ages, intuitive, sensory, wabi-sabi.
ASAHI-SO, Partner venue
Asahi-so is a shared house for creators in Kita-Senju, Tokyo, founded in September 2021.
Set in a traditional Japanese house with a garden known for its beautiful autumn leaves, Asahi-so is currently home to 5-6 residents. Music, making, and creative activity are part of everyday life here. Beyond the residents themselves, the house also brings together people who are creating something — or simply want to begin creating — and aims to be a place where people can encourage and support one another’s work.
While first and foremost a home, Asahi-so sometimes becomes a place for people to gather, share food, exchange ideas, and create things together. We hope to nurture a warm place that people feel they can return to.
