Chikasui 地下水 » Isabelle Daëron / Institut Français de Tokyo / Until September 13

Chikasui is a solo exhibition by Isabelle Daëron, a french designer and artist, laureate of Villa Kujoyama. The practice of design is built on long and attentive research, reading, mapping, and drawing. It involves tracing threads, connecting them, and arranging them in the right order to sketch out forms that are coherent, narrative, and accessible. Here, the exploration consists of investigating Japan’s groundwater—its specific characteristics, its histories, the beliefs associated with it, and the systems that allow people to make use of it. After documenting and mapping Kyoto’s groundwater through the Water Calling project—in collaboration with Yoshiko Nagai—Isabelle Daëron is developing a body of work around objects that act as interfaces, providing access to these invisible waters. The Chikasui exhibition presents the first stage of this creative process, developed during her residency at Villa Kujoyama this year.

Tomorrow’s Dining Table / Top Museum / Until September 21

The TOP Collection exhibition series draws on the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum’s collection of some 39,000 photographs and moving-image works, presenting selections from a different angle each time. The theme for the second installment of the 2026 program is “food.”

Eating sustains the body, and “food” and “life” are inseparable. Photographs viewed through the lens of “food” elicit memories tied to meals and illuminate our connections with others, our current environment, and questions about social issues such as aging and solitary eating. The exhibition unfolds in four sections and features the work of 14 artists: Shimao Shinzo, Hara Mikiko, Noguchi Rika, Ushioda Tokuko, Kawauchi Rinko, Narahara Ikko, Yamada Minoru, Miyamoto Ryuji, Takeya Izuru, Miyazaki Manabu, Tsuchida Hiromi, Narahashi Asako, Iwai Masaru, and Orimoto Tatsumi. An occasion to reflect on what “eating” means, and what it means to “share our lives with others.”

Places to Eat, Drink, Meet…

BUoY Café

Normally, a café has a “correct” brewing recipe for each type of coffee bean. Staff are trained so that no matter who prepares the coffee, it will always taste the same. At BUoY Café, however, each barista begins every day with their own mood and physical sensations, using them as inspiration to create an original brewing recipe. More info / 詳細
